Mama Capsule Summer 2018 | Nursing Friendly Makes

This year, I have set a couple of goals for myself. One: Less impulse buying and more intentional purchases/makes (sales ALWAYS get me). Two: Try to limit my makes to (almost all) nursing-friendly options. Three: Try to use the fabric and patterns I already own first!! This is so hard because it feels like there are always great new patterns being released but I seriously have SO many patterns that I've never sewn its a little ridiculous so I'm really trying to stick to it! To help me stay on track, I decided to put together a me-made-mama capsule that is full of nursing-friendly sewing patterns and patterns that (I think!) I can hack into nursing friendly!
To start, I put together a Pinterest board of styles/shapes that I love and feel good wearing that could also have easy nursing access. Things I'm looking for: button-up tops/dresses, wrap tops and dresses, peplum, elasticized waists, lightweight, flowy, comfortable/soft fabrics, and off-shoulder styles.

I love taking these my Pinterest inspiration boards and comparing the images to the sewing patterns I own and coming up with ways I can use the patterns to create similar looks!

So here is a list of patterns I'm planning on using to create my Summer Capsule along with hacks I plan on incorporating!

Fringe Blouse & Dress by Chalk and Notch - Zero hacks here because I'll do the button up version! I have fabric for a dress and a blouse!

Highlands Wrap Dress by Allie Olsen - I would love to shorten it and make a blouse version and then I also definitely want to make a version that has a circle skirt and then tie sleeves like the yellow dress above!

Aster by Colette Patterns - Version 3 which has pretty flutter sleeves. I think it'll be a super versatile top that I can pair with shorts, jeans, and skirts! I have a really pretty taupe/gray sandwashed rayon that I got from Blackbird Fabrics a little while back for it!

New Look 6468 - Version C which is a button up midi dress with ruffle sleeves. I've been so excited for this one for SO LONG because I've had AGF Ojos Flame Rayon to use for this since last fall, but since getting pregnant I wanted to wait until I had my post-baby bust measurements. So this will be one of my first makes once Theo arrives.

Jessica by Mimi G (Free pattern!)  - Again, no hacks needed here! I'll be using an olive green sheet I've been saving for this one!

Erica Wrap Dress by Seamwork - Hack with a circle skirt and flutter sleeves!

Ruffle Sleeve Top by In The Folds & Peppermint Magazine (Free Pattern!) - I'm going to lengthen it to be a dress and make a tie belt! I also am thinking I'll have the front made of two pieces with a seam so that I can add an invisible zipper to the top for easy nursing! No clue what fabric yet... I don't actually have enough of anything in my stash for this one soooo whoops. I might head to goodwill in search of a bedsheet or table cloth! I think it would be great in a linen or gauze.

Kalle Shirtdress by Closet Case Patterns - I already made one out of a bed sheet and I plan on making another out of a lightweight linen or shirting!

Parkside Shorts by Sew Caroline OR Peppermint Spring Shorts (Free Pattern!) - Whichever pattern I choose, I'm definitely making them out of linen!

Zinnia Skirt by Colette Patterns - Version 1 lengthened to a maxi! This is another one I've had planned since last fall. It'll be black with wood buttons and I think I'll hack it to have an elasticized waist so it can accommodate my changing post-baby body. :)

I'm sure I won't be able to actually get all of these sewn up but I figured I might as well aim high! I can't wait to share all of my makes with you along the way! :)
